After Five Years, Notes from the Cuban Exile Quarter Changes

29 February 1952 – 22 July 2012

Notes from the Cuban Exile Quarter came into existence five years ago on August 23, 2009. At the time Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet had been in prison for a decade and it appeared that he would remain there for at least another 15 years.

This was one of the reasons for Notes from the Cuban Exile Quarter quoting his message of nonviolence.

Five years later, Dr. Biscet is out of prison and continuing his work as an activist in Cuba.

Now, a year has passed since Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas was killed and all available evidence points to a premeditated murder and government cover up.

Family, friends and human rights defenders are demanding an international investigation into the July 22, 2012 deaths of Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas and Harold Cepero Escalante.

It is for this reason and to celebrate Oswaldo's nonviolent legacy that Notes From the Cuban Exile Quarter will now replace Oscar's nonviolent quote with Oswaldo's in order to honor his memory and demand that an international and transparent investigation take place to determine the truth of what happened.

After five years in cyberspace, Notes from the Cuban Exile Quarter is making this change in order to take into account the changing circumstances in Cuba and the continued need for a message of nonviolence while at the same time seeking justice.
